00:00:01,679 –> 00:00:05,707
Welcome to PEN TOOL Photoshop. In this tutorial we’ll cover adding, removing anchors and adjusting

2
00:00:05,707 –> 00:00:11,050
control handles. So select the path, press P, and activate the path. And see here, I want to convert this

3
00:00:11,050 –> 00:00:16,816
path here which is a triangle sort of shape to just follow this green line. So at this point here, it doesn’t

4
00:00:16,816 –> 00:00:21,217
know which anchor I’ve got selected. If I hover over one of these points, like in this case here, hover over

5
00:00:21,217 –> 00:00:23,281
that point and click, it automatically deletes it.

6
00:00:23,281 –> 00:00:29,813
So in this second example in the middle, this arc, if I click a point here, if I hover over the line, it will just

7
00:00:29,813 –> 00:00:33,225
add a point automatically. Now when I hold down the command key and click on that point and drag it

8
00:00:33,225 –> 00:00:40,295
into place. Clicked on it again and you can see it removes it. So you click to add and automatically it

9
00:00:40,295 –> 00:00:44,532
chooses add or delete. So if you hover over an anchor it will delete it. If you hover over a line it will add

10
00:00:44,532 –> 00:00:45,226
an anchor.

11
00:00:45,226 –> 00:00:48,625
So in this case here, I want to adjust this control handle. So you see I’ve got this shape here but I want to

12
00:00:48,625 –> 00:00:53,221
be, this line here, I want it to curve in this green area. So in the previous case I added on a point here and

13
00:00:53,221 –> 00:00:56,278
I can drag it up. But maybe I want just to adjust the control handle.

14
00:00:56,278 –> 00:01:01,224
So if I was to click on it I would remove it. So the option is, like when I was changing direction in the

15
00:01:01,224 –> 00:01:07,529
previous tutorial, so hold down the alt key and click on the anchor. You’ll drag out two control handles.

16
00:01:07,529 –> 00:01:12,642
So in this case here at the moment it’s only got one control handle, this line from here there’s no control

17
00:01:12,642 –> 00:01:18,232
handle. So by holding down the alt key or option, click and drag, hold down the shift, I can drag the lift

18
00:01:18,232 –> 00:01:21,907
lines in place like that.

19
00:01:21,907 –> 00:01:27,673
You can see that’s in place and I can hold down the option key, drag that into place. So this shape here, I

20
00:01:27,673 –> 00:01:30,531
want to create this curve at the point there.

21
00:01:30,531 –> 00:01:38,935
Drag that into place. In this case here it’s got this bowing on both sides. Hold down option. Click like that.

22
00:01:38,935 –> 00:01:40,439
In this case here I can add a point here. Just click and drag.

23
00:01:40,440 –> 00:01:48,260
It’s about getting comfortable, whether you want to add a point & drag it into place or whether you want to alt click

24
00:01:51,260 –> 00:01:57,120
And drag this into place. Start getting used to adding an anchor by clicking and using the command to drag it

25
00:01:57,126 –> 00:02:00,406
Hovering over to remove anchors and dragging out the control handles.

26
00:02:00,406 –> 00:02:06,038
So if I held down the option key on this anchor and clicked, it would remove the control handles. If I

27
00:02:06,038 –> 00:02:10,659
hold down the option key or alt and click and drag, it adds the control handles back. If I let go and I hold

28
00:02:10,659 –> 00:02:13,364
down the option key again, it breaks the control handles. That’s the way it changes direction.

29
00:02:13,364 –> 00:02:19,604
So just use this tutorial to get comfortable with reshaping these lines by using these shortcuts.

30
00:02:19,604 –> 00:02:21,018
I’ll see you in the next tutorial.
